Court allows overweight priests to sign up for the military

The Council of State has approved a draft of presidential decree stating that overweight priests can join the Armed Forces as military priests.

The presidential decree changes a law that limited military priests based on their physical abilities and size. Military law currently states that men listed in the Armed Forces need to have a Body Mass Index of between 19 to 27. The new law will allow priests to join the military with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of between 19 to 35. It is generally considered that someone with a BMI of between 25 to 30 is overweight, while being above 30 indicates obesity.
