Court sentences refugees and migrants involved in Moria clashes to 26 months imprisonment

A North Aegean court has found 32 refugees and migrants guilty of injuring 11 police officers on Chios, as well as for the attempted injury of another 13 officers.

The defendents were arrested during clashes at the Moria hotspot on July 18, 2017.

The court sentenced each defendent to 26 months imprisonment, suspended for three years.

The 32 defendants, who have been in custody since the day of the clashes, appealed against the judgement and are expected to be released.

The court acquitted them of charges of arson, resisting arrest and damaging property as there were no eye witnesses to attest to the crimes having taken place.
