CSKA Moscow beat Panathinaikos in the match of the regular championship of Euroleague basketball.
Meeting of the second round, held on Friday in Moscow, ended with the score 81:77 (22:19, 13:11, 22:28, 24:19) in favor of the hosts. CSKA on 20 points scored Nando De Colo and Andrey Vorontsevich. At Panathinaikos 20 points were scored by former player of CSKA Demetris Nichols.
The first home match of CSKA in this Euroleague season was dedicated to the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of cooperation between the club and the owner. On this occasion the special guests of the game were the legends of the recent past: Theodoros Papaloukas, CSKA Smodis, Ramunas Siskauskas and Sergey Panov. Panathinaikos, which soon should be headed by Xavi Pascual, arrived in Moscow even without the Spaniard, and half of the application of the Greeks was made up of former players of VTB United League: Chris singleton, K. C. rivers, Pat Calathes, Nick Calathes and the previous two seasons playing for CSKA Demetris Nichols.
CSKA powerfully opened the meeting, seizing the advantage to 12 points (20:8). A key role in this area played Andrey Vorontsevich, who scored 14 points and who has successfully completed three long-distance attempts. The Greeks found the answer in the face Nichols: recent soldier three times in a row, scored from behind the arc, and at the end of the first quarter, CSKA was leading 22:19. The second quarter turned out to be less effective, and before the break CSKA had the advantage of five points (35:30).
The third ten-minute Greek club started with a jerk 11:3, and by the middle of the quarter “PAO” was leading with a score of 55:50. CSKA finally found a cast of Nando de Colo in the first half scored one point, and for only one third period – just 11. Far contact Andrey Vorontsevich with siren about the end of the third quarter reduced the gap to CSKA to a single point (57:58). Swing-like in the fourth quarter, Nichols brought the account up to 20 points, updating personal record, but the victory was celebrated CSKA – 81:77.
CSKA, who won two victories in two matches in the next round on 25 October will play with Turkish “Anadolu Efes”. Panathinaikos October 26 on the road will meet with the German “Bamberg”.
