Cyber-attack on the systems of Greece’s central bank was dealt with “promptly”, according to sources

A cyber-attack on the systems of Greece’s central bank was dealt with “promptly”, a source within the Bank of Greece said on Wednesday.

The source said there was an attempt to hack into the central bank’s system on Tuesday by Anonymous and this was quickly neutralised by the bank’s electronic security services, preventing any “side-effects” from the hacking attempt. The attack on the bank’s website lasted a few minutes before normal operation was restored, the source added.

The BoG website continues to present problems on Wednesday, however, which are being investigated by the appropriate services.
