Cyprus government to give 10 million euros to aid Attica fire victims

A Cyprus cabinet meeting chaired by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades on Wednesday decided that the Cyprus government will give 10 million euros to aid victims of the deadly Attica fires.

Cyprus government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou said the amount will be paid into a special account at the Central Bank, while accounts will also open in high-street banks. The cabinet urged Cypriot businesses and individuals to contribute to these accounts.

The spokesman said that the total sum collected will be given for projects and actions for the relief to those affected by the fires, in consultation with the Greek government.
