“SYRIZA has been chosen to complete the dirty business with the third memorandum because it can do the job better than New Democracy (ND) at this phase” claimed Communist Party (KKE) secretary general Dimitris Koutsoumbas in an interview with the Sunday newspaper RealNews. Moreover, he criticised government’s handlings in the negotiations with EU and IMF and did not exclude the possibility of early general elections “If things do not go as the government wants then we can’t exclude a heroic exodus” he said.
Referring to his party, Koutsoumbas ruled out cooperation with former parliament president and former SYRIZA deputy Zoe Konstantopoulou or with former SYRIZA minister Panagiotis Lafazanis “they have a huge responsibility for the left alibi they offered to SYRIZA and they disagreed at the last moment to save their political reputation”.
On Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent provocations Koutsoumbas said “We believe that the government’s attempt to reassure the people is dangerous when there are open issues in the region”.
Finally, he sternly criticised Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos for his latest interventions and called them “an attempt to divide the people and to revive the false dividing line ‘nationalism-cosmopolitanism’ blended with a primitive obscurantist anti-communism”
