D. Tzanakopoulos: Αgreement on NCRTV constitutes an important step in regulating the TV landscape

The agreement on Thursday evening among political parties on the new board of the country’s independent TV regulator constitutes an important step in regulating the TV landscape, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said, following the end of the meeting in parliament.

He said the weight now falls on the National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) to complete a new tender for TV licenses as soon as possible.

“After six consecutive meetings of the Conference of Parliament Presidents for the appointment of the members of the new NCRTV, we achieved the necessary majority required by the Constitution. The consensus achieved constitutes a decisive step for the regulation of the radio and television landscape after 27 years of anti-institutional and unsupervised operation of radio and television stations,” he said in a statement.
