Dairy firm Mevgal pitches in to help fight pandemic

The Mevgal dairy company on Friday announced that it has donated laboratory equipment to the Microbiology Laboratory at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) School of Medicine, in recognition of the urgent needs that have arisen in the medical and scientific community for the treatment of the novel coronavirus.

The Coronavirus Referral Laboratory, which is in charge of the demanding task of analyzing specimens of possible COVID-19 cases throughout northern Greece, operates in this section of the University.

The laboratory director, Professor of Microbiology Anna Pappa, underlined that Mevgal’s initiative is particularly important as it increases the laboratory’s capacity by 30 pct, enabling the testing of more samples in a shorter period of time.

At the same time, in a humanitarian gesture, Mevgal staff have organised a blood drive for voluntary donation of blood.

“At these critical times it is imperative that each of us acts responsibly to provide immediate and effective assistance and protection to our fellow human beings,” the company said.
