Defence Minister and Independent Greeks (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos, in an interview with ANT1 TV on Tuesday, expressed cautious optimism regarding the return of the two Greek soldiers held in Turkey to Greece by Easter, following the intervention of EU officials.
He stressed that the two soldiers are both European and NATO military personnel, adding that their return to Greece is also good for Turkey – for its European perspective and given that Erdogan has received European funds – while, at the same time, he cannot hold the two officers without charges.
He reiterated his opposition to the use of the term “Macedonia” and any derivative in the name agreed for FYROM. He also pointed out that in order to change FYROM’s constitution, elections must be held and he estimated that this is not possible.
Regarding the course of the economy and the measures that have been adopted, he said that the economic growth to be recorded will not necessitate the implementation of measures.
