DEPA the first energy company to be privatised, sources say

The full, 100 pct, privatization of networks and gas trading is among the options being considered by the government under the privatization programme.

DEPA will be the first energy company to be privatized, followed by Hellenic Petroleum (HELPE) in which the state will maintain a share interest, and then the partial privatization of Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) after all legal pending issues are settled.

According to Environment and Energy Ministry’s sources, DEPA will be divided into three activities: gas distribution networks and commercial activities, sectors from which the state will withdraw, and international pipeline projects which will probably remain under state control.

The state owns 65 percent of DEPA and HELPE owns another 35 percent.
