Sports Minister sounds the alarm over events in Greek football

Deputy Sports Minister Giorgos Vassiliadis on Thursday sounded the alarm over the prospects of Greek football, following Sunday’s incidents during the match between PAOK and AEK.

Addressing Parliament, he said that it was a government “demand and working goal that the championship can be allowed to continue.”

“We have to understand that the ‘Damocles Sword’ of Grexit is still hanging over the head of Greek football, not because of the Greek state but because of club officials. But instead of holding them to their responsibilities, we sit about and comment on court decisions,” Vassiliadis said.
