Downtown Athens begins shutdown of streets for Marathon race on Sunday

Athens and the main road from the ancient site of Marathon will be shut down on Sunday for the 35th Authentic Marathon of Athens and other races on its sidelines.

Streets in downtown Athens will begin shutdowns earlier, some from midnight on Friday and continuing gradually through Saturday afternoon.

In addition to the classic Marathon race, there will be shorter runs in a loop between Syntagma Square and the Panathenian Stadium (3km, 5km, 10km and 1,200 organized by Special Olympics Hellas), and races especially for children organized by local towns along the race route.
