A draft education ministry bill for the foundation of a University of West Attica will most likely be tabled in Parliament next Wednesday, sources told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) after public consultation on the proposal concluded earlier on Thursday.
Some suggestions made during the period of public consultation will be incorporated into the draft bill and, according to a senior education ministry source, the comments did not raise fundamental questions regarding the proposal.
“It is an issue we have been working on for seven months and conditions are now ripe, as is shown by the comments,” the source said. The overwhelming majority of the matters arising through the merger of the Athens and Piraeus Technological Educational Institutes to create the new university have been resolved, the source added.
University rectors are holding an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the merger and the proposed legislation.
