Dragasakis: Government is creating conditions to facilitate creation of agricultural cooperatives

The government is creating the conditions, in terms of incentives and liquidity, to facilitate the expansion of agricultural cooperatives in Greece, government Vice-President Yiannis Dragasakis said on Wednesday, during a meeting with representatives of agricultural cooperatives and cooperative banks.

The meeting discussed Thessaly’s growth prospects in agriculture and livestock farming and the progress made in cooperative ventures. The representatives discussed the prospects and problems they are facing, noting that despite “traumatic experiences” in the past, there’s a new wave of cooperative business ventures in the region.

Dragasakis said it is important to create a new model which will be based on the primary sector of the economy, noting that the sector will have to produce higher value-added products through greater interconnection between production and processing.
