European Central Bank lowers borrowing ceiling for Greek banks

European Central Bank lowered the borrowing ceiling for Greek banks from the ELA mechanism by 5.0 billion euros to 33.9 billion, up to and including Wednesday, 20 September 2017, following a request by the Bank of Greece.

The reduction of 5.0 billion euros in the ceiling reflects an improvement of the liquidity situation of Greek banks, taking into account private sector deposits flows, the Bank of Greece said in an announcement.
