An Egyptian national, 31, was identified as the killer of a 23-year-old Afghani who died on December 15, 2017 after a fight in the Omonia Square area of Athens, Greek police said on Thursday.
According to police, the two started a fight on December 15 at the Theatre Square that ended in each knifing the other. The Afghan national was transported to hospital, where he died the same night.
The Egyptian, who is homeless, claimed that the fight started after the Afghani tried to rob him. The 31-year-old had been arrested early in December for carrying an illegal weapon, his knife.
He was led before Athens’ misdemeanor judge, who has referred him to an investigating officer.
