The volume of sales in the retail commerce sector grew 1.8 pct in December boosted by the Christmas bonus wage, with most store categories recorded an increase in sales with the exception of fuel, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Wednesday.
Higher volume of sales were recorded in furniture/home appliances (12.1 pct), bookstores (7.2 pct), pharmaceuticals/cosmetics (5.7 pct), department stores (3.0 pct), clothing/footwear (2. pct), food/beverage/tobacco (1.2 pct), supermarkets (0.7 pct), while sales of fuel and lubricants fell 1.7 pct in volume.
The statistics service said that the retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) grew 1.8 pct in December compared with the same month in 2016, but jumped 21.7 pct compared with November 2017. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 1.6 pct in December from November 2017.
The turnover index (turnover in current prices) grew 2.2 pct in December compared with the same month in 2016, but jumped 22.9 pct from November 2017. The seasonally-adjusted turnover index rose 1.5 pct in December from November 2017.
