It is estimated that the energy exchange will be ready by the end of 2018 or at the latest in early 2019, Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis said on Saturday at the Delphi World Economic Forum.
He also noted that the major transformation that occurs in the production and consumption of energy causes tectonic changes in the energy map.
The minister has also presented the three main pillars on the energy market, which are: the role of renewable energy souces, the reduction of energy consumption and the liberalization of the energy market.
Stathakis underlined that the pricing in the renewable energy souces market has now changed so that investors are aware of the needs that Greece will present in the next 20-30 years. Greece aims to achieve at least 50 pct of the energy produced from renewable energy souces in its energy mix by 2030. Stathakis added that lignite will account for 20 pct of the country’s energy production by 2030. The monopoly on the lignite market is being abolished and new players enter the market, the minister said, according to a statement from the Forum organizers.
