Wage employment balance negative in January

Wage employment in the private sector fell in January, with the hiring-dismissal balance showing a negative 29,817 job positions in the month, according to data released by Ergani IT system on Tuesday.

New hirings totaled 126,501 in January, while dismissals totaled 156,318, of which 73,609 were voluntary exits.
A Labour ministry announcement said that January historically records a negative balance since 2001, although the January 2016 period recorded the best performance ever with a positive balance of 136,260 job positions.

The January 2017 performance reflected changes in four sectors: Retail commerce (-5,895), restaurant (-10,000), employment activities (-3,564) and hotel (-1,965).
