EU Commissioner Avramopoulos refiles request for protected witnesses’ names

EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos filed a new request on Monday asking the Supreme Court to reveal the names of two protected witnesses, whose testimony is central to the Novartis alleged bribery and money laundering case.

In a statement explaining the technical reasons for the refilling, Avramopoulos said among other things that “I am asking for the revelation of the names of the pseudo-witnesses so that my lawsuit may be forwarded to them.”

The EU commissioner is one of eight former ministers named in the case file, which is currently being reviewed by a preliminary investigation committee in Parliament. Avramopoulos was health minister between 2006 and 2009, and his is one of several suits over defamation charges.
