EU wants swift and positive outcome for Greek soldiers held in Turkey, says Schinas

European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas on Tuesday expressed his hope for a swift and positive outcome to this issue of the two Greek servicemen being held in custody by Turkish authorities

Schinas said that the Commission is aware of the incident at the Greek-Turkish border, which resulted in the arrest of the two Greek army servicemen. As he stated, the defence ministers of the European Union convening on Tuesday in Brussels have been briefed on the incident by Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos. “We, in the Commission, hope for a swift and positive outcome of this issue in a spirit of good neighbourly relations as should always be the case between two close neigbours, who are also members of NATO,” Schinas said.

Asked if the EU-Turkey meeting in Varna on March 26 will go ahead, Schinas said that the Commission is working to prepare the meeting and carrying out all actions that will make it possible.
