Europe is not functioning as a Union, Charitsis says

“In the midst of an unprecedented crisis with almost 200,000 dead and the European economy facing a survival issue, Europe is not functioning as a Union,” SYRIZA’s spokesman Alexis Charitsis told Sto Kokkino 105.5 radio station on Monday.

In particular, he said that after three days of negotiations, it appeared that “contrary to the Commission’s original proposal, the special interests of each group of member states prevail, as well as the anguish and obsession with austerity policies that have condemned Europe and especially the countries of the South to a crisis.”

He also accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that “in this discussion of historical dimensions, he was absent from all the processes for forming a bloc of the South against the ‘tough’ of the European North and the initiatives taken by the Italian Prime Minister in this direction.”
