European Commission to increase funds for refugees, Commissioner Stylianidis says

The European Commission will increase its funding for the “ESTIA” programme in an effort to improve conditions in refugee camps, Cyprus’ European Commissioner Christos Stylianidis, responsible for humanitarian aid and crisis management, said during a speech at the Delphi Economic Forum on Friday.

“The EU is the largest donor of humanitarian and developmental aid all over the world,” he said.

Regarding the European Union, he said it has gone through a “political earthquake” and is at a “crossroads” but has not fallen apart, as some predicted, without this meaning that there are no problems.

Based on the above, he stressed the need for the EU to get rid of its “institutional autism” and bridge the Brussels-citizens’ gap.
