European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas held several meetings with key ministers of the Italian government, during his visit to Rome on Friday.
In a statement to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), Schinas said that his visit to Rome focused on three aspects:
“With Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgeze, I reiterated the need for a large and swift European agreement on the Migration & Asylum Pact, which we have presented since last September. In view of the discussion at the Summit next week, the status quo is neither a solution nor an option. We cannot work this through in Europe, from summer to summer, with piecemeal solutions that have no legal certainty. We want a coherent, European, holistic solution,” underlined Schinas.
