European Parliament takes on bad cholesterol

The European Parliament is giving the Commission two years to legislate and tackle bad cholesterol by setting a limit for trans fat acids in all foodstuffs. Trans fats -chemically transformed vegetable oils- are found in many products ranging from cooking oil to pizzas and pastries. They are cheap and easy to make but are a major potential health hazard if consumed in large quantities. They can end up blocking people’s arteries, leading to serious coronary disease.
