Exit from the memoranda not feasible, says ND’s Staikouras

Normality does not exist in the country and a clean exit from the programme, even if desired, is not currently feasible, stated main opposition New Democracy shadow finance minister Christos Staikouras to the Athens Macedonian News Agency radio ‘Praktoreio 104.9FM’ on Monday.

Staikouras said that there are five main reasons for this, foremost being the statements made at Friday’s Eurogroup, based on which Greece will enter a programme of post-programme surveillance that is significantly stronger than that imposed on other countries that exited memorandum programmes.

He asked how a country can be seen as normal when there are still capital controls, additional taxes and measures, cuts in pensions after 2018, when the citizens’ debts to the tax bureau and social security funds increase every month and the economy’s competitiveness declines without meeting the country’s growth targets.

According to Staikouras, the government has failed in all matters relating to the public sphere and elections should have been already held.
