The European Border Guard and Coast Guard, the new management body of common EU external borders replacing Frontex, is a huge step forward, its executive director Fabrice Leggeri said on Thursday during the presentation held at the Bulgarian-Turkish borders.

On his part, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borisov stressed the need for Turkey to remain a strategic ally of Europe.

“Those in Europe that believe that the agreeement between EU and Turkey should be annulled must be aware that three million refugees and migrants are only a few kilometres away from the borders and no country can deal with the problem.”
