Farmers from Crete protest outside the Agriculture ministry

Hundreds of farmers from Crete headed to the Agriculture Ministry to protest against the government’s tax and pension system reforms.

Small clashes also broke out, with riot police using teargas to repel protesters.

The president of the wine producers union of Crete, Priamos Ieronimakis, in statements to the Athens Macedonian News Agency said that all farmers are united in this protest despite their political preferences as the sector is faced with serious problems that hurt the primary sector.

On his part, the vice president of the Farmers Associations of Herakleion, Myron Chilentzakis, said that the tax system, the social security system and the production cost have created a climate of suffocation in the agricultural sector over the last two years.
