Farmers from northern Greece will be stationed at polling stations on the day of the upcoming elections, on Sunday, announced the head of the nationwide coordinating committee of farmers and stockbreeders Christos Gondias.
Mr. Gondias, who spoke to the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, added that the farmers will station their tractors at various “critical points” on the national highways and provincial roads, without however provided further details.
According to Mr. Gondias, farmers from Rodopi, Kavala, Drama, Serres, Malgara, Pieria, Imathia, Thesprotia, Laconia and Lamia will participate in Sunday’s actions. Farmers are in uproar over a series of measures that affect their tax rates and pensions.
Meanwhile, the board members of the nationwide union of stockbreeders (PEK) will convene in Preveza on the 28th of September to evaluate the situation and consider further action.
