Farmers gather in central Greece as unions prepare for new protests

Farmers convened with their tractors in Tyrnavos, central Greece, on Saturday where they announced further protest actions against the government’s pension and tax reforms.

Speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA), the head of the Larisa farming association federation Rizos Maroudas said today’s protest “send the government the message that it will find us against it.”

He said their demands include revoking higher social security contributions and taxes , noting they are the same as last year. “There problems are numerous and the government’s policy is exacerbating them and this is why we will continue our protests,” he added.

Farmers will meet again I Larisa on Sunday to decide on further action for the remaining year.
