Farmers press charges over theft of 20 tons of avocados in Chania

Avocado farmers from Chania, Crete on Monday pressed charges against a person or persons unknown for the theft of 20 tons of avocados from where they were being grown.

The farmers also asked for police patrols in the area to intensify, as well as more inspections to discover where the stolen crops were being taken.

According to the avocado farmers’ lawyer Eftichis Mavrogenis, “pressing charges is the producers’ last resort as they are in despair. These are systematic thefts carried out by an organised ring.”
