Farmers to block major highway on Jan. 22 to protest unresolved issues

Farmers in the Karditsa prefecture will block parts of Highway E65, which traverses Greece north to south, on January 22 to protest ongoing and unresolved issues the agriculture sector is facing.

The decision to hold ongoing protests was taken by representatives from 25 farmers’ unions in the Karditsa area who met at the town of Palamas.

Earlier, Karditsa federation president Vangelis Boutas said that the protests were part of a national committee decision as well. Large and urgent issues of the sector are being left unresolved by the government, he said, while farming revenue is dropping and taxes rising.
