First LNG cargo from US to be unloaded at Revythoussa on Dec.29

A cargo of liquified natural gas (LNG) from the United States will be unloaded before the end of the year at the new reservoir on the islet of Revythoussa, between the mainland and Salamina island, which began operating recently.

According to an announcement, this is the first LNG cargo imported from the US to Greece, marking the joint efforts of both countries for closer cooperation in the sector of energy safety in the region of southeastern Mediterranean.

The natural gas is going to play a transitional role in guaranteeing Greece’s energy safety in the context of energy differentiation and until the production from renewable energy sources reaches the high levels called for by the National Plan for Energy and Climate.

According to the agreement between DEPA and US’s Cheniere, the delivery of 1,000,000 MWh spot freight LNG will be held on December 29.
