Foreign investors slightly raise participation in ASE in January

Foreign investors slightly raised their participation in the capitalization of the Athens Stock Exchange in January, to 63.8 pct – including the participation of Hellenic Financial Stability Fund – from 63.3 pct in December 2018, for an increase of 0.8 pct. Excluding the participation of HFSF, foreign investors’ participation rose to 64.8 pct from 64.6 pct over the same periods, respectively.

On the other hand, Greek investors’ participation eased to 36.2 pct in January from 36.7 pct in December. Foreign investors were net buyers with capital inflows worth 19.82 million euros, while Greek investors were net sellers with capital outflows of 19.77 million.

Foreign investors accounted for 61.4 pct of monthly transactions in January from 57.5 pct in December. The value of transactions totaled 832.91 million euros in January, up 9.9 pct from December, but down 50.5 pct compared with January 2018. Daily average turnover was 37.86 million euros in the month, down from 42.12 million in December.

The number of active investor codes rose to 14,170 in January from 12,545 in December and 21,767 in January 2018. The market’s capitalization was 36.67 billion euros, up 4.1 pct from December 2018 but down 24.9 pct from January 2018.
