Foreign ministry recovers more than 3.5 mln euros from unused funding programs

The foreign ministry said on Tuesday it had recovered 3,590,957 euros from funds that had been allocated to finance a range of programs, within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Greece and the African Union in 2008, which were never implemented.

The sum was uncovered after a thorough search by the relevant ministry services, headed by Ambassador Nikolaos Vamvounakis, who discovered that the programs in question had never been implemented because the then-government had not bothered to monitor and inspect the implementation of the agreement, signed on September 9, 2008.
