Frontex and Coast Guard rescue 145 migrants and refugees

Frontex and Greek coast guard vessels rescued a total of 145 refugees and migrants in separate incidents on Friday.

A Frontex vessel patrolling the Aegean in the region of Myrsinia near Lesvos early Friday located a dinghy with 55 migrants and refugees on board. The 42-year old trafficker was arrested and the dinghy’s occupants were rescued and safely transferred to Mytilene port.

In another incident on Friday , a Frontex partrol vessel rescued 45 migrants and refugees on board a dinghy off the coast of Lesvos. The driver of the boat, allegedly the trafficker, was arrested and the passengers were tranferred to the port of Mytilene.

Moreover, a Greek Coast Guard patrol vessel located a dinghy in distress in the sea region of Karlovassi, Samos. The 45 migrants and refugees on board were rescued and sent to the port of Karlovassi.
