The negotiation on Cyprus enters a crucial phase on Thursday, stated main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos adding that it may become a landmark on the way to the integration of Cyprus. A positive dynamic exists but there are still pending issues on the course for a sustainable and functionable solution.”
“We support President Anastassiades’ effort to put an end to the unnacceptable occupation situation that lasts 43 years and cuts the island in two. Turkey must contribute by withdrawing the occupation troops from the island, abandoning demands on European land and abiding by the international law,” said Koumoutsakos.
Concluding, Koumoutsakos noted “towards this direction we expect a substantial and effective intervention from the EU, the partners, the allies of which member is the Republic of Cyprus.
