Officials of a Beijing-based organization promoting collaboration on sustainable energy development globally met with Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis and Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) CEO Manoussos Manoussakis in Athens on Monday.
Visiting Liu Zhenya, president of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), and other officials, discussed the organization’s promotion of renewable energy sources (RES) that will meet the global demand for electricity in clean and green way. He also referred to the strategic role Greece can play as an energy hub in the East Mediterranean region.
Minister Stathakis presented the country’s energy policy framework and its commitments to the Paris climate agreement and the European Commission. Greece’s energy strategy is to promote the growth of RES into the future, with a national strategy that focuses on the use of RES for almost all of the country’s needs and the use of interconnectivity, smart networks and energy storage.
