Gennimata: Comprehensive plan necessary for Karditsa and the other flood-stricken areas

Opposition Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata on Wednesday visited the flood-stricken areas of Western Thessaly and the city of Karditsa, accompanied by a party delegation and local cadres.

Gennimata witnessed the disaster caused by the torrential rain and the floods at the village of Mouzaki and the city of Karditsa, stating that “the loss of human lives and the size of the disaster show that there is an immediate need for change in the organisation of civil protection in the country and the immediate construction of anti-flooding works in order to avoid experiencing the same situation in the future.” She said that the measures announced for the relief of the flood-stricken should be implemented immediately, but are insufficient.

“The area needs a comprehensive plan in order to return to normal,” she said adding that the government has a long way to go before it gains the citizens’ trust referred to by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and that it will be judged by the result.
Gennimata will also visit the towns of Farsala and Almyros on Wednesday.
