“The Western Balkans have long been in the waiting room for their accession to the European Union. But this has led to new social crises while populism and nationalism are gaining ground,” opposition Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata said on Wednesday upon her arrival at the Party of European Socialists summit, which is being held in Slovenia.
The leader of the Movement for Change expressed the hope that social democracy, which she said was gaining ground again in the EU, will bring the wind of change so that the integration of the Western Balkans can proceed.
Gennimata argued that the political unification of the European Union needs to be accelerated and of course the revision of the Stability Pact that has been made obsolete by the developments.
“There will be convergence between the North and the South, social policies, care for the environment and of course solidarity between peoples. PASOK and the Movement for Change are always at the forefront of these policies,” she stressed.
