Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata visited on Monday the fire-stricken areas in northern Evia.
Gennimata referred to an unprecedented disaster as 52,000 hectares of forest, houses and crops have been burnt and the production basis of the area has been destroyed.
“Government’s excuses and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ apology are not persuading. The government’s civil protection system was tried on Evia and failed” said Gennimata adding that her party’s priority is “to respond to the people’s agony and especially to the young people that want to stay and work in their villages, rebuild their houses and be compensated for the losses. We will not let Evia become the hostage of private interests”.
Gennimata also met with the mayor of Istiea-Edipsos, the port authorities and representatives of agencies from the burnt areas.
