A 60-year old German female aid worker was hospitalized in critical condition on Sunday after being attacked by an unknown assailant on the island of Lesvos, it was reported on Monday.
The woman is an independent volunteer worker at the island’s asylum seekers’ processing facility and the attack reportedly took place in an abandoned house in the Makris Gialos area on Lesvos island.
The woman, who sustained neck wounds, was transferred unconscious and in critical condition to an Athens hospital on Sunday. Before she lost consciousness, the woman said the assailant had removed cash and her mobile phone, ordering her in English not to shout for help.
Police has launched a widespread operation on the island for the attacker’s arrest.
