Government accepts ND’s proposed candidates – Resolution in sight for formation of NCRTV

Parliament President Nikos Voutsis on Thursday that a resolution on the issue of forming the National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV) was in sight, after the government decided to accept main opposition New Democracy’s proposed candidates for the NCRTV’s chairman and deputy chairman, Athanassios Koutromanos and Rodolfos Moronis, respectively.

“Today we are absolutely ready, a series of issues that were raised have been answered and we are ready to pass to the formation of the NCRTV,” Voutsis said.

He informed the members of the Conference of Parliament Presidents of a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) made by Digital Policy and Media Minister Nikos Pappas that the NCRTV will have sole responsibility for organising tenders to allocate television broadcasting licences and that the number of licences will be decided through a process of consultation and consensus between political forces and the new independent authority.
Voutsis informed the members that this will be their last meeting on forming the NCRTV, while ND’s Nikos Dendias asked the Parliament president for an express commitment that there will be an increase in those able to inform the Greek people.
