Government sources on Thursday criticised the stance adopted by main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding the FYROM name issue, pointing to a statement by the leader of the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP) Joseph Daul that the current negotiations are a “window of opportunity.”
“Yesterday, Mitsotakis committed his party to an irresponsible and opportunistic ‘non-stance’ on the FYROM name issue in order to satisfy the far-right nationalist wing of the main opposition,” government sources said. This strategy has already been proved to be problematic, they added.
