Government submits amendment to broadcasting law transfering powers to NCRTV

The government submitted on Monday evening to parliament an amendment transferring all powers relating to the issuing of broadcasting licenses and the relevant tender to the Greek National Council for Radio and Television (NCRTV).

The amendment, prepared by State Minister Nikos Pappas, suspends the powers originally granted to the minister, allowing NCRTV to decide on the number of the TV licenses which will be auctioned and on the tender that will be held.

It is included in a draft bill relating to matters of the Shipping ministry which will be voted by the parliament next Thursday at the plenum. The amendment follows a ruling by the Council of State which found the previous law unconstitutional.
