The demand of main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis for national elections in Fall 2018 confirms the country is completing its loan agreement and turning a new page, Government Spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Monday during a regular press briefing.
He added that the visits of European Commissioner President Jean-Claude Juncker and OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria in Athens confirm that Greece will achieve a “clean exit” from the adjustment program in August 2018 and that the country is turning the page.
The end of the memorandum (bailout agreement) and the start of a new period for the country is coming, he said. “It’s logical therefore that New Democracy and Mitsotakis are concerned. We would like to reassure them however that we plan to renew our mandate (to rule) at its scheduled time,” Tzanakopoulos added.
