Gov’t spokesman: ‘Paradise Papers’ will be investigated thoroughly

The government “will investigate thoroughly” all the names mentioned in the Paradise Papers, leaked documents of offshore accounts released this week, to see if any Greek nationals have committed any tax evasion crimes and must be led before justice, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Tuesday.

During a regular press briefing, the minister of State told the press about government initiatives to fight tax evasion and promote transparency, such as the voluntary declaration of untaxed assets, and collaboration with other countries for information exchange.

Issues like those of the Paradise Papers cannot be managed by countries individually, but the European Union and the Eurozone must decide on a comprehensive policy on tax evasion, he said.
