Gov’t to monitor N. Macedonia’s obligations to Prespes Agreement

The government will “continue to closely monitor” North Macedonia’s full adherence to its obligations according to the Prespes Agreement, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said on Tuesday while criticizing the main opposition and former government of SYRIZA for “a deficient erga omnes” clause.

Charging North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Zoran Zaev with “once again taking advantage of the loopholes in the Prespes Agreement, which we knew and had warned about,” Dendias said that the neighboring country was already in the process of joining NATO.

“Our goal is to resolve issues and mitigate the agreement’s negative repercussions” through North Macedonia’s EU accession path, he said, adding that “in this respect, we shall continue to closely monitor our neighbors’ full respect of their obligations.”
