Greece and Denmark sign fresh agreement on financial support for unaccompanied refugee minors

An agreement that will see some three million euros of financial support for unaccompanied refugee minors from Denmark to Greece was signed on Monday by Alternate Migration & Asylum Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos and Denmark’s State Secretary for Development Policy Trine Rask Thygesen.

According to a ministry announcement, the agreement will operate on top of the two countries’ existing agreement of Denmark’s three million euros to unaccompanied refugee children, signed earlier in the year.

The sponsorship will be made available between November 1 2020 and April 30 2022 and concerns the creation of accommodation facilities, while the planning also includes education, training and integration programs in Greek society, depending on the children’s age.

Meanwhile on Monday Koumoutsakos also spoke with Italy’s Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese, with whom they discussed the EU’s new Migration & Asylum Pact and progress in the relevant consultations.
