Greece-Cyprus-Israel meeting in Nicosia postponed

The Cypriot government on Thursday said that the Greece-Cyprus-Israel meeting scheduled for Monday in Nicosia has been postponed but denied reports that this was initiated by Israel in reaction to the stance adopted during a UN General Assembly vote on the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Cypriot government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said the meeting was postponed because Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted to be present during a debate and vote in the Israeli legislature on shop opening hours. He also said that Israel had proposed that the date of the meeting remain the same but that it should be held in Israel instead of Nicosia, so that Netanyahu might attend the debate.

Christodoulides did not say whether this would happen.
